
The meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs was held at the Parliament House Annexe this evening. The Committee was briefed by representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs on the safety, security, and repatriation of the Indian diaspora during the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who chairs the Committee, led the meeting. The Ministry of External Affairs team was led by Secretary (West) Sibi George.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mr. Tharoor stated that the initial discussion focused on West Asia and was the most comprehensive, with 17 members participating. Everyone expressed concern about the overall situation, its impact, and the safety and security of Indian nationals. He also mentioned that another meeting was held regarding the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi last month. The discussion centered on the outcomes of the summit, its impact, and its implications for tech diplomacy, as well as for relations with countries in the global south.
