In West Bengal, in a significant political development ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Ratna Debnath, the mother of the victim of the RG Kar case, from the Panihati constituency in North 24 Parganas. Her candidacy was announced as part of the BJP's third list of 19 candidates. The RG Kar Medical College case in August 2024 involved the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor, sparking protests worldwide and demands for justice.

Meanwhile, according to the list, Rathindra Nath Bose has been fielded from the Coochbehar Dakshin assembly constituency, Dr. Sankar Guchhait will contest from Medinipur, and Biplab Mandal from the Howrah Madhya assembly constituency.
