West Bengal Elections: EC Addresses CM Banerjee's Concerns

West Bengal Elections: EC Addresses CM Banerjee's Concerns.webp

New Delhi, April 6 Election Commission officials on Monday dismissed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's claim that 200 vehicles carrying CRPF personnel from BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh were sent to the election-bound West Bengal.

They said the Election Commission's (EC) objective is to ensure fear-free, peaceful, and fair elections in West Bengal.

"All deployments of central forces are being carried out in an impartial manner, as per established standard operating procedure," an official said.

Banerjee, also the Trinamool Congress chief, purportedly claimed that CRPF personnel from Uttar Pradesh were brought to West Bengal in 200 vehicles.

"...This is a 15-25 day game. After that, they will understand the real game..." she purportedly said.

Elections in West Bengal will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29.

Banerjee has often accused the EC of working as a front office of the BJP and toeing its line.

The Special Intensive Revision of voters' list in the state has further created fissures between the TMC and the EC.
