The Election Commission of India has decided to equip vehicles allocated to Central Armed Police Force personnel deployed in West Bengal ahead of the state assembly elections with GPS trackers. The deployment of CAPF personnel will take place in two phases.
The first phase, involving 240 companies, will begin on the 1st of next month. The Commission has directed that the armed forces will conduct area domination exercises and familiarize themselves with the state's geography.
The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal stated that the GPS tracking system will enable central observers appointed by the ECI to monitor the movement of CAPF personnel.
The second phase, also involving 240 companies, will begin on March 10th. In the first phase, 110 companies will be from the CRPF, 55 from the BSF, 21 from the CISF, 27 from the ITBP, and 27 from the SSB.
In the second phase, 120 companies will be from the CRPF, 65 from the BSF, 16 from the CISF, 20 from the ITBP, and 19 from the SSB. The Commission has taken this step in response to complaints in previous elections regarding the ineffective deployment of CAPF personnel.
