In West Bengal, after reviewing the names of voters who were undergoing a special revision process (SIR), the first supplementary list of disputed voters may be released today. The final electoral roll, which was released on February 28 after intensive revision, contained over sixty lakh names pending adjudication.
Ahead of the release of the supplementary list, Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Pal, convened an emergency meeting yesterday to ensure law and order and to protect judges and judicial officers involved in the SIR process. Chief Secretary Dushyant Narial also met with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal and Special Observer Subrata Gupta.
The CEO separately held another round of discussions with senior police officials. While details of these meetings have not yet been disclosed, it is believed that the focus was on maintaining security and public order in the state ahead of the publication of the supplementary list.
