New Delhi, March 12 The BJP's central election committee held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the party's candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal and Kerala.
The meeting, held at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence here, was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Union minister J P Nadda, and other members of the BJP's poll body, sources said.
While there was no official word from the BJP, the meeting reportedly involved extensive discussions on the list of names for approximately 160 assembly seats in West Bengal and the finalization of candidates for around 140 seats.
Earlier in the day, a meeting was held at Nadda's residence to discuss the names and the party's strategy for the West Bengal assembly polls. The meeting was attended by Shah, West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, and Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the state assembly.
Sources said the central election committee will meet again soon to finalize party candidates for the remaining seats in West Bengal, which has 294 assembly constituencies.
According to sources, the BJP's poll body meeting also deliberated on the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala and the probable candidates of the party.
Assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry could be held on various dates in April, and the schedule is likely to be announced soon.
The terms of the five assemblies end on different dates in May and June.
