Kolkata, March 8 – The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police announced on Sunday that they had arrested two Bangladeshi nationals, who were accused of the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, a spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho and a leader critical of India, in December last year.
According to a statement issued by the West Bengal Police, the two arrested Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Rahul alias Faisal Karum Masud and Alamgir Hossain.
The two were arrested from the India-Bangladesh border area in the Bongaon sub-division of the North 24 Parganas district, according to the West Bengal Police.
"There was credible information that two Bangladeshi nationals, after committing serious crimes, including extortion and murder, in Bangladesh, had fled their country and illegally entered India, and were attempting to seek refuge in the Bongaon border area with the intention of returning to Bangladesh when an opportunity arose," the statement added, a copy of which is available with IANS.
"Acting on this information, a raid was conducted, and the two Bangladeshi nationals, namely Rahul alias Faisal Karim Masud (37), a resident of Patuakhali in Bangladesh, and Alamgir Hossain (34), a resident of Dhaka, were intercepted in the Bongaon area on the night of March 7-8, 2026," the statement said.
According to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that Rahul and Alamgir Hossain had committed the murder of Osman Hadi, a Bangladeshi political activist, and then fled.
"They illegally entered Indian territory through the Meghalaya border and traveled through various places in India before finally arriving in Bongaon, West Bengal, with the intention of returning to Bangladesh," the statement added.
