
Kolkata, March 16 The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at multiple locations in West Bengal on Monday as part of an investigation into the operations of an alleged illegal call centre, officials said.
Around 10 premises in Siliguri, Howrah, Bidhannagar, and Durgapur were raided. The investigation pertains to the activities of an "illegal" call centre, officials of the federal probe agency said. It was not immediately clear if the investigation is linked to some political funding or inducements related to the electoral process.
Persons named Surashree Kar, Samrat Ghosh, and Subhajit Chakraborty, along with others, are being searched. Several people are alleged to have been duped through the call centres that are under investigation, they said.
The Election Commission announced the schedule for the assembly elections in West Bengal on Sunday, stating that the state will have elections in two phases on April 23 and 29. Votes will be counted on May 4, along with the states of Assam, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry.
