Kolkata, February 28 Voters in West Bengal were left in the dark for most of the day, unable to access information about their voter status on the Election Commission's website and mobile application, following the release of the post-poll voter rolls on Saturday. This was due to a technical issue that kept the portal offline.

Although access to online data on the Election Commission's designated websites was unavailable since morning, officials realized the problem after users reported that the websites were "down" and inaccessible around 1 pm.

The election authority has been publishing the voter rolls in phases, marking the end of a 116-day statewide exercise that began on November 4 last year.

Both the Election Commission's voter services portal and the state CEO's website were unresponsive, causing confusion among voters attempting to check their names on the list.

"The final voter roll will be published online in the afternoon," an official of the Chief Electoral Officer's office had said.

Following the announcement, a large number of voters logged onto the Election Commission's voter portal (https://voters.eci.gov.in/) and the website of the West Bengal CEO (https://ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in/). However, both websites failed to load.

The Commission had also informed voters that they would be able to check their names through its ECINet mobile application. However, users reported that the app was also not functioning.

"Even after entering the EPIC number, the app keeps loading without showing any result," a voter said.

There was no immediate official statement from the Commission regarding the technical glitch at the time of filing this report.
