Dubai, March 14 Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the US, despite "bullying India" into ending its imports of Russian oil, is now begging them to buy crude from Moscow, just two weeks after its war with Iran.
"The US spent months trying to pressure India into ending its oil imports from Russia," Araghchi said in a post on the social media platform X on Friday.
"After two weeks of war with Iran, the White House is now appealing to the world — including India — to buy Russian crude," he added.
This comes after the US issued a 30-day waiver on March 5, allowing India to buy Russian oil, following the imposition of heavy sanctions related to the war in Ukraine.
Araghchi called out Europe's stance on the conflict in West Asia, describing the war on Iran as "illegal" and saying that Europe believed backing an illegal war on Iran would win US support against Russia.
He even described the current stance of the Trump administration towards the purchase of Russian crude oil as "pathetic."
Starting February 28, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran, following days of build-up with US President Donald Trump ramping up the pressure on Tehran to agree to a new deal on its nuclear programme.
Iran's retaliation escalated the war to the entire Gulf region.
