Mumbai, Feb 22 – The West Indies, known for their unpredictable nature in the T20 format, will face Zimbabwe in a crucial match at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Zimbabwe, an underdog team in this edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, will be looking to upset the favorites.
The West Indies, who won the T20 World Cup twice, have been in excellent form, topping their preliminary league group ahead of England. They will face three European teams – England, Italy, and Scotland – along with the Asian minnows Nepal.
Despite being considered the "Group of Death," Group C turned out to be the toughest, with each of the five teams winning at least one match. The West Indies topped Group C, while England finished second.
The West Indies are known for their unpredictable performances, capable of producing both outstanding and forgettable matches. However, they have been in excellent form recently, winning four out of four matches in Group C against Scotland, England, Nepal, and Italy. Their bowling unit has also been impressive, claiming 38 wickets in the group stage, the most among the 20 teams.
All-rounder Romario Shepherd missed the Nepal game due to a minor injury, but his return will be a major boost. The team will also be relying on the spin bowling of Gudakesh Motie, who has been a key player in the group stage.
Skipper Shai Hope has been the stabilizing force for the West Indies, leading the team to victory. His opening partner, Brandon King, has struggled, scoring just 62 runs in the group stage. Shimron Hetmyer has also made a significant contribution, while Rovman Powell will be looking to make an impact in the Super 8s.
Zimbabwe has also been a surprise package in this edition of the T20 World Cup. They topped Group B by defeating former champions Australia and Sri Lanka. The West Indies will be looking to continue their winning streak against the African team.
The West Indies have an advantage in head-to-head series, winning three out of the four games played between them. However, the fact that they have won one game against the West Indies gives them the hope to dream of another stunning result.
