
Lt. Gov. Manoj Sinha formally opened the sixth Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg on Monday, with CM Omar Abdullah in attendance.
Feb 23, Srinagar: The sixth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games was inaugurated on Monday at the Golf Club in Gulmarg, with Manoj Sinha formally declaring the event open after addressing the gathering.
Omar Abdullah was also present at the ceremony.
In his address, Sinha expressed happiness that the event was being hosted in Gulmarg, where athletes will showcase their talents. Abdullah, speaking on the occasion, said that insufficient snowfall has created the need to move toward artificial slopes to sustain winter sports. He emphasized the development of artificial slopes in Gulmarg to ensure the continuity of such events.
Sports Minister Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and Commissioner Secretary of Youth Services and Sports Shahid Iqbal Choudhary also addressed the ceremony. Cultural programs were presented during the event.
The competitions will feature cross-country races, alpine skiing, slalom, giant slalom and snowboarding, among other events. The contests will be held at the Golf Course and at Khongdori, with around 400 athletes from across the country expected to participate.
