Kolkata, March 12 Restaurants across Kolkata are struggling with a severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, forcing several eateries to reduce their menus, raise prices, and even consider temporary closure, industry representatives said on Thursday.

Several food establishments have also switched to wood-fired ovens to cope with the crisis.

The disruption in supply follows the recent escalation in West Asia, which has affected LPG imports into India.

The situation has been further complicated by a directive from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas prioritizing domestic LPG supply over commercial distribution.

Industry bodies on Thursday warned that the crisis could threaten the survival of many food businesses if the supply situation does not improve soon.
