Bangkok, April 4 Shyam Sunder Swami secured a bronze medal for India after defeating his senior teammate and Paris Paralympic bronze medalist Rakesh Kumar in a closely contested playoff at the World Archery Para Series here.

Swami won 143 (10*) to 143 (9) in the bronze medal match of the men's individual compound event, with the result decided on a tie-break after both archers were tied.

Rakesh, who won a bronze medal in the mixed team event at the Paris Paralympics, finished fourth after a disappointing performance in the shoot-off.

In the women's W1 individual event, Anjum Tanwar also finished fourth after losing 2-6 in her bronze medal match against an opponent from the Republic of Korea.

The Bangkok event follows the Asia Cup first leg, which was held recently at the same venue, where India delivered a strong performance, winning 10 medals – two gold, four silver, and four bronze.

However, India had to settle for second place behind Kazakhstan, who topped the standings with three gold and one bronze medal.
