
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the government's commitment to wildlife conservation on the occasion of World Wildlife Day.
In a social media post, Mr. Modi stated that World Wildlife Day is a day to celebrate the incredible biodiversity that enriches the planet and sustains ecosystems. He also acknowledged the efforts of all those working towards wildlife protection. The Prime Minister reiterated India's commitment to conservation, sustainable practices, and protection of habitats, ensuring that India's wildlife continues to thrive.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that India is home to some of the world's most extraordinary wildlife. Emphasizing the percentage of the tiger population in India, Mr. Modi stated that the country hosts over 70 per cent of the world's tiger population. He also mentioned that India has the largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros and the largest number of Asiatic elephants.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the numerous efforts the government has made to protect wildlife. This includes establishing the International Big Cat Alliance, which is an exceptional forum for sharing best practices with fellow nations. He also mentioned that other efforts include the protection of the Great Indian Bustard, Gharial, and Sloth Bear, and translocating cheetahs.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the country's commitment to wildlife conservation on the occasion of World Wildlife Day. In a social media post, Mr. Shah stated that India's timeless ethos teaches living in harmony with nature. He added that from the majestic tiger to the smallest species, every life form plays a vital role in sustaining ecological balance. The home minister expressed hope that the day would further strengthen the collective resolve to protect and preserve wildlife for future generations.
Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav termed World Wildlife Day a celebration of the incredible biodiversity of Earth. In a social media post, he stated that India remains mindful of the many dangers threatening its rich ecosystem. Mr. Yadav added that India is committed to not just conserving what it has but also recovering key species for ecosystem restoration. The minister expressed hope that the wildlife thrives, enriching the planet.
