
March 28, New Delhi — India's Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, met with WTO Reform Minister-Facilitators, Espen Barth Eide, Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chris Bryant, UK Minister of State for Trade Policy, on the sidelines of the WTO's 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) in Cameroon.
Minister Piyush Goyal reiterated India's full support for a reformed, relevant, and effective WTO.
Piyush Goyal emphasized the need to uphold the organization's foundational principles, particularly consensus-based decision-making, the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) rule-based trade, and Special & Differential Treatment (S&DT), which are essential to ensuring equity and balance in global trade.
The Minister also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of amplifying the voice of the Global South and its pivotal role in shaping a more inclusive and equitable multilateral trading system.
