Thiruvananthapuram, March 11 Tension gripped the Thampanoor bus depot here on Wednesday after a group of Youth Congress activists attempted to put up posters on state-run buses targeting Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar over certain allegations made by his wife.
The activists, who arrived at the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) depot with party flags, put up posters depicting the minister as a rooster on buses parked there.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and tried to remove the posters, stating that such material was not permitted on KSRTC buses, leading to a heated exchange between the activists and the police.
The situation briefly turned tense as Youth Congress workers objected to the police action, resulting in a verbal altercation.
Youth Congress Thiruvananthapuram district president Nemom Shajeer questioned the police action and demanded that Ganesh Kumar resign as the Transport Minister in light of the infidelity allegations made against him by his wife.
The controversy erupted after the minister's wife, Bindhu Menon, on Monday claimed that she had been living separately for the past several months due to his alleged relationships with several women.
She had also alleged that the minister's personal staff had assaulted her.
Ganesh Kumar, however, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, claiming that they were being raised ahead of the Assembly elections.
However, Menon on Tuesday said she would not pursue the complaint against her husband as he had admitted his mistake and apologized.
Ganesh Kumar, a leader of the Kerala Congress (B), married Menon in 2014 after legally separating from his former wife Yamini Thankachy.
