Kolkata, March 2 Former India greats Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh have been approached by the BCCI to conduct specialized camps at the Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, with the "Targetted Players" being asked to attend.
The list of targeted players is prepared by the BCCI based on potential senior India prospects who have performed well at the age-group and first-class levels, and have also played for India A and, possibly, a few games for the senior team.
Former left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan is already in Bengaluru for a five-day camp with young pacers who could be knocking on the doors of the senior team or have played a few games for them. It is learnt that the COE's Head of Cricket, VVS Laxman, approached his former teammates for specialized camps – four to five days – to help the next generation of Indian cricket prepare.
"Laxman approached Zaheer, Harbhajan, and Anil Kumble for specialized camps. Harbhajan is trying to finalize the dates for a four-to-five-day "off-spinners" camp. He is looking forward to working with upcoming prospects who have performed well at the age-group and India A level.
"This is a welcome initiative where those who have played over 100 Tests for India are sharing their experiences with the next generation," a BCCI source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told
