
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, April 3 Second-seeded Indian Zeel Desai advanced to the semifinals of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Open Women's ITF tournament here on Friday.
Desai defeated her compatriot, Jennifer Luikham, in the quarterfinals, winning 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 13 minutes to reach the final four.
She will face fourth-seeded Russian Elina Nepliy in the semifinal. Nepliy had defeated sixth-seeded Ksenia Laskutova 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Tea Kovacevic from Bosnia Herzegovina won convincingly against seventh-seeded Elena Jamshidi 6-1, 6-1 in 53 minutes.
Kovacevic will face top-seeded Kazakh player, Zhibek Kulambayeva, who had defeated Indian wildcard entry, Madhurima Sawant 6-1, 6-0 in just 55 minutes.
In the doubles semifinals, the pair of Kulambayeva and Ekaterina Yashina defeated the Indian pair of Saumya Ronde and Chevika Reddy Sama 6-3, 6-3 to reach the final.
The pair of Anastasiya Kuparev and Sevil Yuldasheva upset the second-seeded Indian pair of Soha Sadiq and Madhurima in a hard-fought contest, winning 6-4, 1-6, 10-3.
