New Delhi, April 3 Actor Zeenat Aman revisited her memories and recalled filming a scene involving a wheelchair alongside Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan from the cult film "Don," describing it as an "extremely challenging" experience.
The film, released in 1978, featured Aman as Roma and Bachchan as the ruthless underworld boss Don and his innocent look-alike, Vijay.
Aman shared a video clip from the film on her Instagram account on Thursday, in which she pretended to be a nurse and had to help Bachchan out of the hospital in a wheelchair.
Aman said she had to maintain a stoic expression, but it was difficult for her. "I suppose there's a 'Vintage Video Wednesday' thing? Yes, this is THAT scene from (the original 1978) 'Don' – Roma, ever enterprising and daring, deceives the police and escapes with an unconscious Don from a hospital room," she wrote.
"Now, I had already worked with many of the cast and crew in previous productions, so I was completely comfortable during the filming. I also enjoyed playing Roma's character. She was intelligent, daring, and smooth. Who wouldn't want to portray such a woman! Unfortunately, being smooth on set that day wasn't easy! Why, you ask? Because that wheelchair, with Mr. Bachchan's dead weight on top, was extremely difficult to maneuver. I had to maintain a poker face while actually pushing with all my might," she added.
The film was directed by Chandra Barot and turned out to be the third highest-grossing Indian film during its release.
It also inspired actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar to make "Don" films, which were released in 2006 and 2011, respectively. These films starred Shah Rukh Khan as Don, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas portraying Aman's character, Roma.
Akhtar is also working on another "Don" film. Actor Ranveer Singh was initially attached to the film to play the role previously portrayed by Bachchan and Khan. However, reports surfaced earlier this year, stating that the actor had walked out of the film due to creative differences over the script and delays.
The original film "Don" was influenced by the plot of "Chhailla Babu", which was released in 1977 and featured Rajinikanth.
Besides "Don," Aman and Bachchan have also worked on films such as "The Great Gambler," "Dostana," and "Laawaris," among others.
