March 15, New Delhi: The strategically important Zojila Pass on National Highway 1 has been reopened for traffic after remaining closed for six days due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions.
Officials said that the convoy was allowed to depart from Sonamarg at around 10:30 a.m. after road clearance operations were completed on the stretch. More than 2,000 passengers and around 300 vehicles were allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Ladakh once the route was declared safe for travel.
The Border Roads Organisation carried out extensive snow clearance operations to restore connectivity on this crucial route. Under Project Vijayak, teams worked continuously using heavy machinery to remove accumulated snow and ensure safe vehicular movement.
Zojila Pass is a vital link connecting the Kashmir Valley with Ladakh. With the reopening of the pass, the movement of passengers and essential supplies to the region has resumed.
Authorities have advised travellers to follow traffic regulations and remain cautious while crossing the high-altitude pass, as weather conditions can change rapidly in the region.
