New Delhi, March 21 A committee will be formed based on the concept of "My Zoo" to connect prominent individuals from various fields with zoos, according to officials from the Ministry of Environment.

The decision was made during the 45th meeting of the Central Zoo Authority, chaired by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun.

"During the meeting, the progress of the second cycle of Management Effectiveness Evaluation of zoos was reviewed. Zoos should present the progress on the conservation breeding program of two to three species per meeting at the forthcoming meetings of the Central Zoo Authority," an official statement said.

"A committee should be formed based on the concept 'My Zoo' to connect prominent individuals from various fields with zoos. Regular updates regarding the transfer of leopards involved in negative interactions with humans, to zoos that have reported having facilities in off-display areas for their long-term care, ensuring appropriate housing, upkeep, and healthcare, should be provided," it said.

A publication titled "Care in captivity: A compendium to showcase best practices of zoos" was released during the meeting.

The compendium highlights India's evolving approach to zoo management, focusing on animal welfare, conservation breeding, research, and education.
