Aizawl, March 23 Mizoram's ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) announced its candidates for all seats in the upcoming elections to the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday.
The opposition Congress also announced six more candidates for the elections, thereby fielding nominees in all 19 seats.
The two parties also launched their election campaigns and unveiled their manifestos during the day.
The main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) has already announced candidates for all 19 seats, while the BJP is yet to release its list.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), polling will be held on April 21, and the counting of votes will take place on April 27.
The last date for filing nominations is March 25, scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 27, and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is March 30.
Although the current term of the municipal body ended on March 1, the SEC deferred the elections, citing overlapping administrative priorities.
According to the SEC, over 2.37 lakh voters, including around 1.28 lakh women, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the polls.
In the previous AMC elections held in February 2021, the MNF had secured a majority by winning 11 seats, followed by the ZPM with six seats and the Congress with two.
