Guwahati, April 10 Shyamkanu Mahanta, the key accused in the Zubeen Garg death case and organizer of the North East India Festival (NEIF), applied for bail before the special fast-track court on Friday.
Special public prosecutor Ziaur Kamar said Mahanta's lawyer had filed the bail petition.
"They requested a hearing date to be set for April 13. However, the court has set it for April 22. We will file our objection to the bail," he said.
Mahanta had previously also applied for bail, but later withdrew the application.
A special sessions fast-track court is hearing the case on a day-to-day basis.
The singer-composer drowned while swimming near Lazarus Island on September 19, a day before he was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival in Singapore.
A Special Investigation Team of the Assam Police's CID investigated the death and filed its charge sheet before a local court here in December, naming seven accused. Four of them, including Mahanta, are facing murder charges.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in the state Assembly in November that Garg's death was a case of "plain and simple murder".
The Singapore Police, which has carried out a separate investigation, has concluded that there is no evidence of foul play.
However, authorities in Assam maintained that this will not affect the case here in any way.
