1 killed, 7 injured in road accidents in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 4 (PTI) — Tragedy struck Kolkata on Tuesday as a motorcyclist was killed and seven others injured in two separate road accidents, police reported.

In the first incident, a motorcyclist lost his life in the Chinar Park area in the northern part of the city. The accident occurred when a private bus collided with the motorcycle and then ran over the rider while attempting to overtake the two-wheeler near Loknath Mandir. A senior officer from the Bidhannagar Police confirmed that the motorcyclist was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. Both the bus driver and conductor have been detained in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at Baguiati Police Station.

In a separate accident around 10 am, at least seven individuals were injured when the driver of a private bus lost control of the vehicle in the Hastings area. The bus, traveling from Howrah district toward Kolkata, struck two other vehicles, including a private car and a mini matador. The goods vehicle overturned on the road. According to the police, the bus driver was arrested, and three of the injured passengers are in critical condition.

The collision occurred as the bus was descending the approach road to Vidyasagar Setu, when the driver reportedly lost control and hit the moving vehicles. The injured victims included passengers from both the bus and the car.
