Imphal, May 11 – In a major crackdown on militant activity, Manipur Police arrested eleven militants from multiple districts on Saturday for allegedly extorting money from locals. The arrests were made across Imphal West, Kakching, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts.
According to police officials, the operation led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the accused. Among those apprehended were four operatives affiliated with the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (MC Progressive). Authorities seized two pistols and 27 live rounds from this group.
The arrests mark a critical step in the ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities and ensure the safety of local residents in the region. Investigations are currently underway to determine the extent of the extortion network and possible links to other underground outfits.
Security forces have stepped up operations in the region amid rising concerns over militant-led intimidation and extortion tactics.
