Aizawl, Feb 2 (PTI) – At least 112 people lost their lives in road accidents across Mizoram in 2024, a senior official revealed on Sunday.
According to Transport Secretary Zosangliana, the state witnessed 124 road accidents this year alone. Over the past five years, from 2019 to 2023, Mizoram recorded 423 road mishaps, resulting in 355 fatalities.
In a bid to curb the rising number of accidents, the Mizoram government launched the ‘Road Safety Month’ campaign on Saturday, aiming to raise awareness and promote responsible driving habits.
As of January 24, 2024, a total of 3,99,290 vehicles were registered under the state transport department, Zosangliana added.
With the increasing number of vehicles on the road, authorities stress the need for stricter traffic regulations and public cooperation to enhance road safety.
