New Delhi, May 17—In a major political development within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), thirteen councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced their resignation on Saturday and launched a new political outfit, the Indraprastha Vikas Party. They cited a lack of development work and increasing internal discord within the AAP.

Senior councillor Mukesh Goyal, who will serve as president of the newly formed party, said the decision stemmed from frustration over two-and-a-half years of administrative inaction and internal conflict.

“No development work has been carried out in our wards since we were elected. The party was too busy with blame games and internal politics. Despite raising our concerns repeatedly, the leadership paid no attention,” Goyal stated.
Veteran municipal leader Hemchand Goyal will head the newly formed Indraprastha Vikas Party. Other former AAP councillors who joined the breakaway group include Dinesh Bharadwaj, Himani Jain, Usha Sharma, Sahib Kumar, Rakhi Kumar, Ashok Pandey, Rajesh Kumar, and Anil Rana.

Goyal further alleged that councillors were not allocated the necessary budgets to undertake development initiatives in their respective wards.

“Our focus is to work for the real issues affecting the people of Delhi. We want the House to function without disruptions and push for policies that serve public interest,” he said, emphasizing that the move pertains solely to municipal governance.
There was no immediate response from AAP regarding the resignations.

It is important to note that the anti-defection law does not apply to municipal bodies like the MCD, allowing councillors to form new factions without disqualification.
