Raipur, May 12 – A devastating road accident late Sunday night claimed the lives of 13 individuals, including nine women and four children, and left 14 others injured in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district. The tragedy occurred near Saragaon on the Raipur-Balodabazar road, according to local police officials.
Fatal Collision on Raipur-Balodabazar Road
The victims were returning from a family function in Bana-Bansari village when the goods truck they were travelling in collided with a trailer coming from the opposite direction. The impact was severe, and the vehicle further rammed into another heavy vehicle, police said.Senior Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh confirmed that the accident involved 35 people, mostly from the same family. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the injured were immediately taken to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur for treatment.
State Response and Relief Measures
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and announced ex gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be provided to each of the injured individuals.The Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured and has pledged full support to the affected families.
Investigation Underway
District Collector Gaurav Singh confirmed that administrative teams swiftly reached the accident site to oversee rescue and relief operations. Police have registered a case, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.This tragic incident underscores the need for enhanced road safety and stricter traffic regulations, especially on major transport routes.
