Colombo, May 11 – At least 17 people lost their lives and 25 others were injured when a passenger bus skidded off a cliff in Sri Lanka's Central Province on Sunday, police said.
The tragic incident occurred in Kotmale as the bus driver attempted a left turn on the hilly terrain. The vehicle veered off course and plunged nearly 100 meters down the cliff.
Authorities confirmed that 25 passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Fatal road accidents are not uncommon in Sri Lanka, often resulting from reckless driving and poorly maintained roads. This incident has once again raised concerns over transportation safety in the region.
