Shivpuri (MP), Feb 3 (PTI): At least 170 people have fallen ill after consuming food at a mass feast organized at a temple in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, a health department official confirmed on Monday.
The affected individuals belong to villages under the Mamoni Kala gram panchayat, where the communal meal was held on Saturday. District Medical and Health Officer Sanjay Risheshwar stated that preliminary investigations suggest food poisoning as the likely cause of the incident.
Authorities have collected food samples for further testing, and the exact reason behind the illness will be confirmed once the investigation report is available, he added.
Reports indicate that the affected individuals experienced symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. A medical team is actively monitoring the situation, with six doctors deployed to Mamoni Kala, Ladaipura, and Tarpan Ka Purba villages to provide necessary treatment.
Vinod Mishra, the husband of Mamoni Kala Gram Panchayat's sarpanch, claimed that nearly 200 people fell sick after consuming the meal. He also mentioned that over 60 individuals were hospitalized in critical condition, while others received primary treatment within the village.
Health officials continue to keep a close watch on the situation to prevent any further spread of illness.
