Bhubaneswar, February 9 At least 18 children were admitted to the hospital after consuming ice cream in Cuttack district, Odisha, on Monday, police said.
The incident occurred in the Kumusar village, within the Banki police station limits of the district.
The children had eaten the ice cream after attending a religious festival.
Soon after consuming it, they complained of discomfort, irritation in the mouth, and other symptoms, causing panic among the villagers, police said.
Some parents also reported health issues after eating the ice cream, police added, noting that they responded to the incident after receiving information from locals.
They were rushed to the Banki sub-divisional hospital, where they were treated and later discharged.
The ice cream vendor has been detained.
"The children's condition is not serious. They were treated with B-complex medicines and curd, and are expected to fully recover within six to 12 hours," the doctor at the Banki hospital said.
