19-Year-Old's Mysterious Disappearance Sparks Protests in Mangaluru; Locals Accuse Police of Inaction

Mangaluru (Karnataka), March 1: The mysterious disappearance of a 19-year-old youth from Farangipete has led to widespread public protests and accusations against local police for allegedly failing to act swiftly.

Diganth, a resident of Amemar village in Farangipete, has been missing since February 25. According to his family members, he left home saying he was going to visit a temple but did not return, prompting concerns over his safety and whereabouts.

The situation intensified on Saturday when several local residents, supported by organisations including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), staged protests demanding immediate police action. VHP leaders and activists visited Diganth's family to express solidarity and support.

Protesters alleged that Diganth's disappearance could potentially be linked to local drug cartels. They accused the police department of negligence and a lack of commitment toward initiating a proper investigation. The unrest resulted in a spontaneous shutdown of Farangipete from early morning hours, reflecting the residents' frustration with the authorities.

High-profile local leaders, including Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MLA V Bharat Shetty, and prominent figures from various Hindu organisations joined the demonstrators, lending weight to the protestors' demands for justice and transparency.

As tensions escalated, protesters openly voiced their dissatisfaction with the state government, urging immediate intervention and a thorough, impartial investigation into Diganth's disappearance.

Authorities are now under increasing pressure to swiftly address the community's concerns and resolve the case, as public sentiment in Farangipete remains charged.
