Ranchi, Feb 4 (PTI): Tragedy struck near Jharkhand’s capital, Ranchi, when a high mast lighting tower collapsed on a stationary auto-rickshaw, killing two women and injuring five others, police reported on Tuesday.
The accident occurred near a toll plaza in the Nagri police station area, approximately 18 km from Ranchi. According to Abhishek Rai, in-charge of Nagri police station, the tower suddenly became uprooted and crashed onto the auto-rickshaw, which was carrying around eight passengers.
“Two women lost their lives on the spot, while five others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” Rai stated.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the mishap. However, locals have blamed negligence, alleging that the lighting tower was not installed securely, leading to the fatal incident.
