Pune, May 15 – A 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped and assaulted late Tuesday night while she was en route to her night shift job in the Chakan area of Pune district, according to police officials.
The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. in the Medankarwadi locality, when the woman was walking to her designated bus pick-up point. She was intercepted by the accused, identified as Prakash Bhangre, who allegedly dragged her behind a commercial complex and sexually assaulted her, said Shivaji Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1).
Her cries for help reportedly drew the attention of two passersby, who forced the accused to flee the scene.
Following the survivor’s report, the Chakan police launched a swift operation, forming ten separate teams to track down the suspect. Bhangre was arrested shortly afterward using a combination of technical surveillance and local intelligence inputs.
Police confirmed that there is no prior connection between the accused and the survivor, and they do not work at the same place.
