Meerut (UP), Feb 4 (PTI): Four police personnel, including an outpost in-charge, have been suspended in connection with repeated incidents of cow slaughter in the district, officials announced on Tuesday.

The action came after carcasses of cows were discovered in the Phoolbagh police outpost area on Monday, sparking protests led by BJP workers, including a former youth wing leader. This incident followed a similar discovery on Sunday in the same locality, which had already triggered demonstrations by party members.

According to an official statement, despite clear directives from senior officers to prevent such incidents, cow slaughter continued in the area, pointing to police negligence. Taking note of the situation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada ordered the suspension of Phoolbagh police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Mahesh Kumar, Sub-Inspector Virendra Singh, and constables Prakash and Pawan for their alleged inaction.

The SSP has also instructed all station in-charges across the district to take stringent measures to curb cow slaughter, warning of strict consequences for those failing to enforce the directive.

Ankit Chaudhary, a former BJP youth wing leader leading the protest, claimed that local residents had initially informed him about the cow carcasses found on Sunday. Following public outrage, police officials had assured them of action within 48 hours. However, before the deadline expired, additional carcasses were found near Surajkund Sitaram Pulia on Monday, further intensifying tensions.

The police department now faces increased pressure to ensure strict enforcement of laws related to cow slaughter and prevent further unrest in the district.
