State Government Facilitates Evacuation and Support for Students Studying in Conflict Zones
Bhubaneswar, May 10 — In a coordinated effort to ensure the safety of its citizens, the Odisha government successfully facilitated the return of 43 students from Jammu amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict, officials confirmed on Saturday. The students, who were pursuing studies at the Central Sanskrit University in Jammu, had been instructed to vacate their hostels as tensions escalated in the region. They were first transported to Delhi and then brought back to Odisha by train, the official added.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, the state's Commerce and Transport Department arranged logistics for the students’ safe return. Upon arrival at various railway stations across Odisha, the students were welcomed by state government representatives.
“The students were provided food, water, transport and other essential facilities during the journey,” the official said, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and comfortable passage for its youth.
In addition to those from Jammu, several other students studying in northern Indian institutions—including Doon International School, Welham School, and Mussoorie International School—returned to Bhubaneswar independently via flights.
The Odisha government has assured continued support for any remaining students from the state studying in Jammu and Kashmir, with ongoing efforts to monitor and coordinate safe passage for them.
