Students and Workers Safely Return from Jammu and Kashmir and Border Regions

New Delhi, May 12 – A total of 476 individuals from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been safely evacuated from Jammu and Kashmir and other states bordering Pakistan, following heightened tensions along the border earlier this month.

According to an official statement, 350 students from Andhra Pradesh have reached New Delhi, including 100 evacuees who arrived on Sunday from Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas. Of these, 90 students have already departed for their respective hometowns, while 260 remain under the care of the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in the capital.

A 24x7 Control Room has been set up at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi to assist evacuees from the state, offering constant coordination and support for those affected by the recent unrest.

Telangana Evacuees Include Students, Faculty, and Workers

The Telangana government also confirmed that 126 people have reached Telangana Bhavan in Delhi so far, with 91 arriving since midnight on Sunday. The evacuees include:
  • 50 students from NIT Srinagar
  • Students and faculty from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences
  • Workers from Jammu and Kashmir
  • Students from Lovely Professional University in Punjab
Of the total evacuees, 57 individuals have already returned home, while the remaining are being provided shelter at Telangana Bhavan.

Comprehensive Relief Measures in Place

Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Bhavans have made extensive arrangements for those displaced. They are offering free food, accommodation, medical assistance, and transport to ensure the safety and comfort of all evacuees.

Context: India-Pakistan Ceasefire After Major Confrontation

This large-scale evacuation comes in the wake of a serious military confrontation between India and Pakistan, which escalated after the terror attack on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The hostilities led to widespread security concerns in the border states.

On May 10, both countries reached an understanding to cease all military actions, bringing some relief after one of the most severe escalations in decades.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, with ongoing support being extended to affected citizens as they return to safety.
