The trauma care facility, to be developed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), is expected to play a critical role in saving lives by ensuring immediate medical attention for accident victims under a single roof.
As per the official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the centre will be jointly funded by the central and state governments, with the central government contributing 60% of the total cost, while the Odisha government will bear the remaining 40%.
Chief Minister Majhi had earlier written to Union Health Minister J P Nadda in July 2024, requesting the establishment of the trauma care centre at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Following the central government’s in-principle approval, the state government has now cleared the project, paving the way for the preparation of a detailed project report and the commencement of implementation steps.
This initiative is expected to significantly strengthen emergency healthcare infrastructure in Odisha, particularly in catering to trauma cases with enhanced efficiency and promptness.
