Thane, April 5 – A 52-year-old man from Dombivli, wanted for allegedly raping and threatening a 19-year-old woman in Thane, was arrested late Friday night from a hotel in Nashik, police confirmed on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Extortion Cell of Thane Police launched a swift operation to apprehend the accused, who had been evading arrest since the filing of the complaints. He was reportedly hiding in Nashik to avoid the police dragnet.
Victim Met Accused on Instagram
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav, the young woman had first connected with the accused via Instagram. The accused allegedly lured her with a promise of employment at Mumbai airport and then called her to his office in the Davadi area of Dombivli.The complainant stated that between February 16 and March 29, the accused sexually assaulted her multiple times. She further alleged that he threatened her at gunpoint, warning he would harm her parents if she resisted.
Threat of Leaking Explicit Content
The woman also told the police that the accused had explicit audio and video recordings of their meetings and threatened to release them on social media to silence her.FIR Registered Under BNS and Arms Act
Based on the survivor's statement, the Manpada police registered an FIR against the man under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:- Section 64 (rape)
- Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty)
- Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt)
Ongoing Investigation
The accused had been absconding since the cases came to light. Officials confirmed that he is now in custody, and further investigation is underway.
