Thane, Feb 26: Authorities in Maharashtra’s Thane district have booked six tenants for allegedly stealing electricity worth ₹3.25 lakh in Bhiwandi’s Nadi Naka area, police confirmed on Wednesday.
According to officials, a power supply company conducted an inspection at a chawl (row tenement) on January 23, where they discovered that the tenants had illegally tapped into a nearby electric pole using a direct wire connection. The unauthorized usage was estimated at 10,699 units over the course of one year, up to January 2025.
Following a complaint filed by the power company, the Shanti Nagar police registered an FIR on Monday under the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, against the six individuals involved. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
