Sonbhadra (UP), Feb 2 (PTI) – A tragic road accident in Ranitali village, under the Hathinala police station limits, claimed six lives and left three others injured on Sunday evening. The deadly collision occurred around 7:30 PM on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar State Highway when a truck, crossing the divider, veered into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into a Hyundai Creta.
According to Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena, the SUV was traveling from Chhattisgarh to Robertsganj when the truck struck it. The impact proved fatal for four car occupants, the truck driver, and another individual who was crossing the road at the time.
Among the deceased, Sanaullah Khalifa (40), a resident of Ramanujganj, Chhattisgarh, and Ravi Mishra (45) from Medical College Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, have been identified. The third identified victim, Umashankar Patel, was a truck driver from Adalhat, Mirzapur. The identities of the three remaining victims are yet to be confirmed.
The injured, including two women and a man, were immediately rushed to the district hospital by police teams from Hathinala and Duddhi police stations. Due to the severity of their injuries, they have been referred to a higher medical center for advanced treatment.
Following the accident, authorities transported the bodies to the Duddhi mortuary, while senior police officials conducted an inspection of the crash site. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the truck’s deviation into the opposite lane.
