Imphal, Feb 4 (PTI): In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, security forces in Manipur arrested nine militants linked to various banned outfits from multiple districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal, police reported on Tuesday.
The most significant operation took place in the Mantripukhri Thakurbari area of Imphal East district on Monday, where five members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) were apprehended. The police recovered a 9mm pistol, a magazine, 11 live rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, and three mobile phones from their possession.
Additionally, an individual associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (MC) Progressive, actively involved in extortion, was arrested from Singjamei Thokchom Leikai in Imphal West district.
In Kakching district, authorities arrested a militant from the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), also linked to extortion, from the Irengband Hawairou area.
Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, an active cadre of PREPAK (Pro) was taken into custody from Yairipok Bazar on Monday.
A separate operation on Sunday led to the arrest of a militant from the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), who was involved in extortion, at Wabagai Bazar in Kakching district.
Security forces continue to intensify their operations against insurgent groups operating in the region. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to curb insurgency-related violence.
