New Delhi, Feb 28: The recently concluded 45-day Mahakumbh in Prayagraj witnessed a 66% surge in Aadhaar Pay transactions, highlighting the growing reliance on biometric-based digital payments. According to a report by PayNearby, the increase was observed in comparison to the previous month.

Additionally, cash withdrawals via AePS (Aadhaar Enabled Payment System) and Micro ATMs (MATM) rose by 19%, reflecting the increasing demand for accessible and secure banking solutions during the grand religious gathering.

Apart from direct transactions, mobile recharge services saw a 32% increase, money transfers jumped by 47%, and insurance services recorded an 8% rise. These trends indicate that festival attendees prioritized financial security and seamless digital services during the event.

Digital Transactions at High-Footfall Events

Commenting on the data, Anand Kumar Bajaj, Founder, MD & CEO of PayNearby, stated, "The 66% rise in Aadhaar Pay and the 47% increase in money transfers highlight the critical role of assisted digital transactions in high-footfall environments."

The insights were drawn from PayNearby’s assisted service counters at Jan Sahayata centers and over 15,000 multi-utility retail touchpoints across Prayagraj. The fintech company boasts a network of over 12 lakh retail partners across India, providing essential financial and digital services to local communities.

Massive Footfall and AI-Powered Parking Solutions

The Mahakumbh, which concluded on February 26, attracted more than 66 crore visitors. Managing the influx of pilgrims and vehicles was a major challenge, addressed in part by AI-powered parking systems from auto-tech firm Park+.

The company reported that its FASTag-enabled systems helped manage over 5 lakh vehicles during the event, allowing car owners to pay for parking spots seamlessly without human intervention.

The increasing reliance on biometric and AI-driven financial services at large-scale events like Mahakumbh underscores a significant shift toward cashless and automated transaction ecosystems in India.
