Chandigarh, Feb 26: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced Rajya Sabha MP and industrialist Sanjiv Arora as its candidate for the upcoming Ludhiana West assembly bypoll. The declaration was made on Wednesday by AAP national general secretary Sandeep Pathak through a post on social media platform X.
Although the Election Commission has yet to announce the date for the bypoll, the contest follows the recent vacancy of the Ludhiana West seat. The seat was left unoccupied due to the tragic demise of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi last month. Gogi lost his life due to a gunshot injury when his licensed firearm accidentally discharged at his residence.
Arora, a prominent businessman from Ludhiana, has been serving as a Rajya Sabha member since 2022. His candidature reflects AAP's strategic move to retain the constituency, which the party had won in the previous assembly elections.
