New Delhi, May 12 – AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar has alleged that the newly-elected BJP government in Delhi has failed to uphold its poll promise of continuing free electricity, claiming residents are now grappling with frequent power cuts and an impending hike in electricity tariffs.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Kumar, who represents the Kondli assembly constituency, criticized the BJP’s governance model and contrasted it with the Aam Aadmi Party’s track record over the past decade.
He further alleged that, despite the BJP’s pre-poll assurance of offering free electricity up to 300 units, the current scenario is marked by outages and service disruptions. Kumar also warned of a potential increase in electricity tariffs by up to seven percent during the peak summer months of May, June, and July.“The AAP government provided uninterrupted 24x7 electricity for 10 years. We offered free electricity up to 200 units and subsidised rates up to 400 units, making it the most affordable in the country,” Kumar stated.
The BJP won a landslide victory in the February assembly elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats and ending the AAP’s decade-long rule. The Aam Aadmi Party retained 22 seats.“Today, Delhiites are faced with two distinct models — one of the AAP, which delivered free and reliable power, and another of the BJP, which is now failing to maintain supply while preparing to hike rates,” he said.
As of now, neither the BJP nor the Delhi government has issued a response to the allegations raised by Kumar.
