New Delhi, April 5 — India's Abhinash Jamwal delivered a commanding performance to book his place in the 65kg final of the World Boxing Cup, held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. The 22-year-old outclassed Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga with a 5:0 unanimous decision on Friday, underlining his dominance on the global stage.

Jamwal, known for his height and agility, smartly kept out of Malanga's reach while exploiting every opportunity to land sharp counters. His strategic brilliance and swift movement earned him near-perfect scores from four of the five judges, who gave him a 30. Notably, all judges unanimously awarded the first and third rounds in his favor.

Malanga was forced onto the defensive early, facing a countdown in the very first round, which tilted the momentum firmly towards the Indian.

Hitesh Creates History, Jamwal Joins Him in Final​

A day earlier, Indian boxer Hitesh scripted history by becoming the first from the country to reach a World Boxing Cup final, following his victory over French Olympian Makan Traore in the 70kg category. Hitesh is set to clash with England’s Odel Kamara in the gold medal bout.

Jamwal, meanwhile, will face Brazil’s local favorite Yuri Reis in what promises to be a high-octane 65kg final.

Manish Rathore Falls Short in Semifinal​

In the 55kg division, India’s Manish Rathore saw his campaign come to an end at the semifinal stage, losing 0:5 to Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Altynbek.

Strong Showing by Indian Contingent​

This tournament marks India’s debut participation in a global elite boxing event organized by World Boxing. The 10-member squad has impressed with its gritty performances — two boxers have made it to the finals, while four others reached the semifinals, showcasing India’s growing prowess on the international boxing circuit.
