Kolkata, Feb 27 – Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee has refuted speculation regarding a rift with party chief Mamata Banerjee, asserting his unwavering allegiance to the party and its leadership. Addressing a gathering of senior party leaders at the TMC’s organizational meeting at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Abhishek dismissed the rumors as politically motivated ahead of elections.

“The opposition always spreads such canards whenever elections are around the corner,” he said, emphasizing that he remains a “loyal soldier of the TMC” and considers Mamata Banerjee his leader.

Focus on the 2026 Assembly Elections

The meeting, aimed at strategizing for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, saw Abhishek Banerjee set an ambitious target for the party—securing at least one seat more than its current strength of 214 in the 292-member Assembly.

Taking a dig at his detractors, Abhishek categorically rejected claims that he might switch allegiance to the BJP. “Even if they slit my throat, I will continue to raise the ‘Mamata Banerjee Zindabad’ slogan from my severed windpipe,” he declared.

His remarks come amid speculation over his recent absence from key party activities. Many note that his focus has been largely on social welfare initiatives within his Diamond Harbour constituency.

Crackdown on Internal Dissent

Abhishek cautioned party members against engaging in activities that could weaken TMC’s position, urging them to maintain discipline. “Being an MP, MLA, or block president does not give you the right to make statements that demean the party. Those who have done so have been identified,” he warned.

He also addressed alleged internal rifts, urging party workers to prioritize public service over factional disputes. “Forget about personal differences and work for the people. Conspiracies within the party will be futile, and those engaging in WhatsApp group politics should realize that such efforts will backfire,” he added.

CBI Probe and Political Targeting

Responding to the recent CBI charge sheet linking him to the teachers’ recruitment scam, Abhishek lashed out at the investigative agency, accusing it of acting under political influence. “The CBI is so scared that it is pointing fingers at me indirectly because they have no concrete evidence. If they can produce proof against me, I will willingly walk up to the gallows,” he challenged.

Battle Against BJP

Asserting TMC’s readiness to take on the BJP in the upcoming elections, he said, “The BJP relies on the ED, CBI, and Income Tax to do its bidding, but lacks the courage to fight on the streets. We have dismantled their ‘chakravyuh’ before and will do it again.”

With the 2026 polls on the horizon, Abhishek’s address served as a rallying cry for party workers and a strong rebuttal to opposition narratives. His remarks reaffirm TMC’s unity under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, as the party gears up for another electoral battle in West Bengal.
