Abhishek Sharma's Recovery Uncertain Ahead of Pakistan Match.webp

New Delhi, February 12 While India's star opener, Abhishek Sharma, has been discharged from the hospital, uncertainty remains about his participation in the crucial T20 World Cup group league match against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15.

Abhishek, who was suffering from a stomach infection-related issue, was hospitalized for a couple of days after complaining of high fever and stomach pain.

He was discharged from a Delhi hospital on Wednesday, but on Thursday, as the Indian team trained at Kotla, Abhishek did not participate due to lingering weakness.

There has also been some weight loss, and in the case of a severe stomach infection, it takes time to recover and regain the strength and stamina needed to play top-level cricket.

"Abhishek is still not fully recovered; he might need one or two games to get back to form," skipper Suryakumar Yadav hinted, suggesting that he could be a doubtful starter for the Pakistan game.

It is understood that his training session in Colombo will be a key indicator of his fitness. If he bats for a prolonged period, as he usually does during routine nets, then it would suggest that he is fit to play.

During the past year, if you have observed India's net sessions, Abhishek takes multiple turns to bat, and in a three-hour session, he bats for anywhere between 75 to 90 minutes.
