Absconding for 16 years, man arrested for killing 2-year-old in Noida

Noida, Feb 3 (PTI) – A man accused of electrocuting and killing a two-year-old child in 2009 was arrested in Noida on Monday, 16 years after he allegedly committed the crime, police officials said.

The accused, identified as Sanjay, originally from Bihar, had reportedly fled to Nepal after the murder. He was apprehended in Noida’s Sector 62, according to the police.

Crime and Investigation
Sumit Kumar Shukla, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), confirmed the arrest and stated that Sanjay was wanted for the crime that took place on October 10, 2009. A case was filed following a complaint by the victim’s father.

Sanjay, who worked as an electrician in Mamura, located in the Sector 58 police station area, was a frequent visitor to the complainant’s home. According to ACP Shukla, on the day of the crime, Sanjay entered the house while the father was away. He allegedly electrocuted the child before throwing him onto the floor.

Following the incident, Sanjay fled to Nepal, successfully evading law enforcement for over a decade. In an effort to track him down, Noida Police had announced a reward of ₹25,000 for his arrest.

Arrest and Next Steps
After years of investigation, the accused was finally caught in Sector 62, Noida. The police are now working to notify the victim's family about the arrest, ACP Shukla said.

The case highlights the persistent efforts of Noida Police in ensuring that fugitives are brought to justice, no matter how long they remain at large.
